Welcome to our school

Muttaburra State School is a small outback community of learners, located in the geographic Centre of Queensland.  Our school has been proudly servicing the community of Muttaburra since 1884. We believe in personalised learning through inclusive and multiage philosophies in a safe and supportive environment.

We implement the Australian Curriculum and Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline across Kindergarten to Year 6. Our school has dedicated staff providing students with quality educational outcomes in accordance with the Department of Education's curriculum, assessment and reporting framework. The school is committed to developing our students into competent and confident learners when they leave school.

Traditional land owners

Muttaburra is located on the traditional tribal lands of the Iningai people. Mootaburra is an aboriginal word meaning ‘the meeting of waters’.

Muttaburra State School respects and acknowledges it resides on the traditional lands of the Mootaburra people.

State Delivered Kindergarten

The Department of Education (the department) is committed to ensuring Queensland children and families have access to a kindergarten program wherever they live.

The department provides kindergarten programs in selected approved State Schools in communities where families would otherwise not have access to a kindergarten program. Kindergarten is proudly provided at our school 5 days per fortnight. We offer an approved kindergarten program delivered by a qualified teacher to children who are at least four years old by 30 June in the year they start the program.

The Outback Advantage (OA)

"The Outback Advantage" is a cluster of remote Band 5 small schools, which work together to enhance the quality and sustainability of initiatives in their schools. The aim is to reduce the workload of small school principals to allow them more time to be innovative and creative to ensure the best learning outcomes for students. We believe that there are many potential advantages to being educated in a small rural multi-age school.  This is distinctly different from a mindset that we are disadvantaged. We work hard to take advantage of our small multi-level classes, as well as our rural and remote contexts.

There are currently nine schools in the cluster - Muttaburra SS, Ilfracombe SS, Isisford SS, Jericho SS, Jundah SS, Stonehenge SS, Windorah SS, Birdsville SS and Bedourie SS. Each school in the cluster is led by a teaching Principal with an additional teacher allocation of between 0.4FTE and 0.8FTE. Within the schools, multiple year levels exist in a single classroom with multiple concepts being taught at the same time.
