Muttaburra State School is committed to sustainability now and for the future of our society.  We support sustainability through many initiatives throughout the school - enough for all forever.

Learning

At Muttaburra State School, sustainability is integral not only to daily life, school and student routines but embedded within the whole school planning, teaching and learning programs.

Our passion and commitment to ensuring there is enough for all forever, is evident in our curriculum that encourages students to track and monitor the resource use such as water, energy generation and consumption, weather, weight of recycling and composting and provides innovative ways to do so that encompasses the traditional and the digital.

The tangible link between the aesthetically pleasing and prominent solar power system and the solarschools.net integration through their own website and the embedded information within our own, makes it easy for students to engage with monitoring of our systems.

We celebrate our sustainable leadership in many ways, namely the living breathing dynamic of the beautiful and environmentally friendly campus and ways of working everyday, but through our school sign, our weekly assemblies, our website and in our community.

Lunches

Students and families are encouraged to supply ‘nude food’ (unwrapped) foods, wherever possible for lunches, which is a viable option, given some of the innovative lunchbox designs available.

Weather stations

There are simple weather stations around the campus consisting of rain water gauges, thermometers and weather vanes.

Composting

At break times, students have the option to place their compostable food scraps into the scrap bins for transfer to the Compost Bin.

Solar power

Our school has a large solar panel system connected to the grid - a 4KW Inverter with 24 x 180 Watt Panels to offset our energy consumption and carbon emissions.  The panels, temperature, energy consumption, generation and carbon offset can be monitored from the Solar Schools link on the home page.

Lighting

All of our lights have energy efficient fluorescent tubes.  Lights have been retrofitted with T5 tubes and retrofit kits.

Water tanks

Our campus is adorned with a selection of water tanks for different purposes, some for oval irrigation, cooling tanks and others for gardens.
